What is a Hamantaschen?



Hamantaschen are triangular shaped cookies usually filled with fruit and or sweets. Jews and non-Jews eat this delicacy and yummy cookie all year round but the tradition is to bake, eat and give these cookies to friend's and family during the Purim holiday season. But Jewish traditon also remembers the poor. In addition to giving gifts, one is also charged with giving charity or tzedakah or Mataonot LeEvyonim.


Purim arrives in the transitional time period between winter and spring exactly 1 month before Passover.
